Moving break!

Things have been quiet here for the past week. Because my prayers have been answered! I got a job offer in Indianapolis, so I'm going to be moving soon!

I ask for your patience while I get moved and settled in. We'll have plenty of updates here in a couple of weeks, OK?

Hooray!

Fascinated With: Citrus!

Y'all, my signature summer scent is available again! I love it, I love it, I love it! It smells a lot like a mojito made with Malibu!
The closest a poseurgoth like me is gonna get to the beach!

So it got me to thinking. I must say I'm a bit outside my normal box here, since I've gotten rid of all the colors in my wardrobe except for neutral solids and prints, animal prints, and shades of purple. But it's SPRINGTIME, it got up to eighty degrees today, and my sunny mood today reflects that. So let's look at super colorful things! And tasty things made with tropical citrus fruits! We're going to bask in the spring and summer sun together right away!

On our NAILS!

Sephora: Sunrise on the moon
On our LIPS!

(I own it and I cannot say enough good things about it!)
It looks scary-orange in the tube, but it mellows out a lot when you put it on. It really wakes my cheeks up when I smear it on like a creme blush, too. Can't really think of a skin tone it wouldn't look good on. I'm so white I'm practically blue, and it's still not too orange for me.

In our TUMMIES!

And of course we must set the proper ambiance with music! This is the part where I shamelessly plug Johnny Aloha, who is Richard Cheese of Lounge Against The Machine, but on this album he's singing Hawaiian tiki-style pop rock covers instead of lounge. I've been into this fella since the early 'oughts. If he ain't your thing, there's always old school surf rock.

What is your favorite way to celebrate spring finally being here?

Music Monday: Monte covers Maroon 5

If you haven't heard Monte play, then... you sit down, you shut up, and you listen right now. He's one of the best musicians in the state and you're missing out!

Wishlistin'

'Kay, so I'm probably not going to buy any of these except for the comfy flat-sandals, and maybe the Lollapalooza tickets (But *gulp* that's so much money!) but I've been coveting some things lately. I figure posting a collage might get it out of my system, so here we go!

I crave...

  • A black tulle skirt.
  • Some comfy, flat-but-somewhat-cute walking sandals. I'm most drawn to the Anu Maia, but I've ogled some from Kalso, Naya Palomi, Keen, Portlandia, Earth, and another Kalso.
  • A leopard-print flat.
  • Polka-dot heels. This pair is my favorite so far. If going the flat route, this Matisse set is just uh-freakin-dorable. I also dig the Casablanca slingbacks from Anthropologie.
  • Some lace-up boots! Maybe it's all the My So-Called Life I've watched recently. I just want to put on a floral babydoll dress and these boots and sulk around for a little while. Y'know, reclaim my early adolescence.
  • Which segues nicely to LOLLAPALOOZA TICKETS. The 3-day passes AND the one-day passes, on their respective opening days, sold out within like an hour. UNFAIR. All that's left is travel packages for 2. Which means I can get one with my tax refund, which isn't what I wanted to do with that money, but whatever. I've never been, the Postal Service and NIN and The Cure are all performing, and I REALLY want to go to Chicago again since I haven't been since 2007. I don't know who I'd even go with, but I'm open to splitting the 2-person travel package including 2 posters, 2 T-shirts, and a 3-night stay at the James Hotel with pretty much anyone who's non-rapey and willing to drive in Chicago. Anyone got $800 to reimburse me their share?

I Post Links: This girl is awesome! Plus more on the simple life.

So there's this artist who I just found via one of my favorite personal-style bloggers, Allie.

Girl's name is Zoe (That's my cat's name! Cool points!), she lives in Nashville, she isn't even out of high school yet, and holygod, she's awesome. Her sense of personal style is a lot more ostentatious than mine is presently, but we'd have gotten along famously when I was her age. We share a delight in Frida Kahlo and somewhat-surrealist art in general.

Okay, I probably also love it in part because it's awfully close to an outfit I'd wear myself, what with all the black and white with pattern-mixing and spiky shoes. BUT TIARA! If you aren't inspired by this girl, you might just not have a pulse, that's all I'm sayin'.

I also found this great article on the unnecessary ageist hatin' that we women sometimes perpetrate on each other in the streets, via Sally at Already Pretty. Yeah, the Closet Feminist is one of my new faves, yo. Thanks for the link, Sally.

Freaky Fascinations: My favorite jewelry involving BUGS!

My fascination with spiders, growing up, was pretty much legendary. I had spider bracelets, spiderweb earrings, spiderweb patterned tights, spider necklaces... you get the point.

Well, these days, everyone seems to be getting in on the bug-jewelry fun wagon, including Tory Burch and JC Penney! I dare say these creations are much classier than teenage-me found at Spencer Gifts and Halloween clearance sales. From antique finds to high-fashion creations, here are some of my favorite darling little bugs:

Butterfly AND spider in a resin pendant, by Etsy seller BackToMyBranch

Tory Burch 'Buddy' Pendant

Braided spider bracelet by Etsy seller gotowrist
No-piercing ear cuff by Etsy seller ExquisiteStyle
Garnet ladybug pendant from Zales
Bee bracelet and earring set at Morning Glory Antiques (MY GOD THIS SITE.)
Grasshopper brooch at Morning Glory Antiques (I mean are you kidding me!)
Spiderweb necklace by Etsy seller RosesWireArtJewelry
Honey bee specimen bottle necklace by KillJarJewelry (WANT!)
Ladybug ring at Saint By Sarah Jane
Butterfly hoop earrings at The Pyramid Collection
Black diamond spider pendant at JCP

So, are they totally awesome, or am I totally just a creep?

EDITED: I just had to add these cicada earrings from Nylonmag Shop as soon as I saw them! Holy crap, how awesome are these!!

Music Monday: Under Pressure x 2!

I was a kid in the early to mid 90's. I remember enjoying "Ice, Ice Baby."

And then I heard "Under Pressure" for the first time. And I got ANGRY at that 'Niller feller for what he did to that beautiful, amazing song, which to this day is still my favorite Queen song (followed by "Fat Bottom Girls" of course), and my second favorite Bowie song after "Queen Bitch."

Legends never really die, and Freddie's a legend. Annie, though. Annie is a goddess. And tell me you wouldn't wear that dress, like, right this second. She is so timeless.
